Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce continues to meet with residents at every opportunity. On the first day of European Mobility Week, held this year from 16 to 22 September 2026 under the main theme "Mobility for Everyone, Intergenerational Equity", Mayor Ünlüce travelled to work by tram to raise awareness.
Mayor Ünlüce marked the start of European Mobility Week in Eskişehir with a tram journey, accompanied by Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Metin Bükülmez and Head of the Transportation Department Fırat Bilgili.
Leaving home and travelling by tram, Mayor Ünlüce got off at the Municipality tram stop. During the journey, she chatted with residents and listened to their views and suggestions, while highlighting the important role of public transport in daily life.
"OUR TRANSPORT CHOICES SHAPE THE FUTURE OF OUR CITY"
Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce said she wanted to make a meaningful start to European Mobility Week by choosing to travel by tram on the first day of the week:
"Today is the first day of European Mobility Week. I wanted to begin this meaningful week, held under the theme 'Mobility for Everyone, Intergenerational Equity', by choosing the tram for my journey to work. European Mobility Week is not just a week focused on transport; it is also an important call to rethink how we want to share our cities. Our transport choices affect many aspects of our lives, from the air we breathe and the tranquillity of our city to our health and the future we leave to our children. With its tram network, cycling culture and walkable urban environment, Eskişehir has a strong foundation and a long-standing urban tradition in this field. I ask my fellow residents to choose public transport, cycling or walking instead of private cars whenever possible. Every step we take and every responsible transport choice we make is of great importance for the future of our city. This week, let us take a step that will change not only the way we travel but also the future of our city, and reconsider our transport choices."
A JOINT CALL FOR SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT
Throughout European Mobility Week, the aim is to raise awareness of sustainable transport, environmentally friendly transport alternatives and the importance of mobility in urban life.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality also continues its awareness-raising efforts in support of tram, cycling and pedestrian transport, working towards the goal of a more liveable, environmentally friendly and accessible city.
