The projects that Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce aims to implement as part of the 2026 Eskişehir Year are becoming a reality one by one. As part of the "International Young Eskişehir Ambassadors" programme, launched in line with Mayor Ünlüce's goal of "We will promote Eskişehir worldwide through the voices of young people," participants came to the city for the International Eskişehir Porsuk Festival and had the opportunity to discover Eskişehir's culture, way of life and values first-hand.
As part of the programme, which aims to promote Eskişehir on international platforms through the voices of young people, young participants invited from the city's sister cities came together in Eskişehir. Participants from Frankfurt, Lansing, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Nicosia and Kyrenia had the opportunity to discover the city's historical, cultural and social life first-hand.
With the project, implemented with the approach of "We are promoting Eskişehir worldwide through the voices of young people," the aim is to draw on the energy and perspectives of young people to strengthen sister city relations and build lasting friendships and cultural bridges among young people from different countries.
AN INTERNATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING IN ESKİŞEHİR
As part of the programme organised by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Youth Centres within the scope of the International Porsuk Festival, young people from abroad who were selected by the sister city municipalities and came to Eskişehir were hosted with a full programme of activities.
Dynamic ice-breaker and orientation activities were organised to help the visiting participants quickly adapt to the city and the programme, while throughout every stage of the programme, emphasis was placed on helping them get to know one another and engage in cultural exchange.
THEY DISCOVERED ESKİŞEHİR'S HISTORY AND CULTURE FIRST-HAND
Through visits to Odunpazarı, Kentpark, Sazova Park, the Küllüoba excavation site, the Phrygian Valley and museums in the city, the visiting participants were introduced to Eskişehir's thousands of years of history, cultural heritage and natural beauty.
While visiting the city's landmarks, the participants also had the opportunity to experience Eskişehir's daily life first-hand. The Land Parade, organised as part of the International Eskişehir Porsuk Festival, placed them right at the heart of the festival atmosphere.
One of the notable activities of the programme was the preparatory workshop for the Sister Cities Flag. The activity, in which young people from different countries worked together on a joint creation, contributed to further strengthening ties between sister cities through young people.
CULTURES CAME TOGETHER, FRIENDSHIPS GREW STRONGER
At the Cultural Night organised as part of the programme, participants had the opportunity to share the cultures, traditions and local flavours of their countries and cities with one another.
Bringing different cultures together with Eskişehir's hospitality, the evening created unforgettable moments for the participants while also strengthening the friendships formed throughout the programme.
Following the busy and colourful programme, the young people left the city not only with wonderful memories of Eskişehir, but also as new Eskişehir volunteers and cultural ambassadors who will share the city's culture and way of life in their own countries.
