ATATÜRK BOULEVARD COMES ALIVE WITH "CAR-FREE SUNDAY"
As part of the "Car-Free Sunday" event organized by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality on the last Sunday of every month, a section of Atatürk Boulevard was closed to vehicle traffic between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Throughout the day, the boulevard hosted a variety of colourful activities enjoyed by citizens of all ages, from children to adults.
As part of the initiative, several bus routes operated on designated alternative routes, while the traffic-free section of Atatürk Boulevard was transformed into a vibrant open-air public space.
Children enjoyed a fun-filled day in the play areas and inflatable playgrounds set up at the event venue. As children took part in the activities throughout the day, families also followed the programme with great interest.
Cultural and artistic activities added a special atmosphere to Car-Free Sunday. Puppet shows delighted young audiences, while musicians performing as part of the "There Is Music on the Streets" programme filled the boulevard with music. Visitors occasionally joined in, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.
Eskişehir residents who participated in the sports activities organised throughout the day had the opportunity to stay active and enjoy spending time outdoors. A folk dance performance by a group of women also received warm applause from the audience.
The Car-Free Sunday initiative aims to reduce the use of private vehicles, lower carbon emissions, and help prevent air and noise pollution. It also seeks to encourage the use of public transport and alternative modes of transportation while transforming public spaces into more active and vibrant places for social interaction.
