Marking World Bicycle Day on 3 June, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality highlighted the importance of environmentally friendly transportation, stating: "By choosing bicycles for short-distance travel, we can create cleaner and more livable cities."
On World Bicycle Day, employees of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality highlighted the importance of cycling. Department heads, branch managers, and municipal staff who regularly use bicycles in their daily lives rode to work, once again emphasizing the value of cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly means of transportation.
Through its investments in sustainable transport infrastructure, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality aims to further strengthen the city's cycling culture. It was noted that, with the expansion of the safe bicycle lane network, both municipal employees and residents have increasingly begun to choose bicycles as a mode of daily transportation.
Starting his day by cycling to work, Head of the Department of Transportation Fırat Bilgili emphasized the environmental and health benefits of cycling, stating: "World Bicycle Day on 3 June is a wonderful opportunity to do something good both for our bodies and for our planet."
Merve Sert Özkiremitçi, Head of the Transportation Planning Branch, who dropped her child off at daycare using a bicycle child seat early in the morning before cycling to the official institutions' parking area and the bicycle parking facilities within the municipality, highlighted the importance of safe cycling infrastructure: "Every morning, after taking our son to daycare by bicycle, we continue our journey to work. As safe cycling infrastructure becomes more widespread, we are working to integrate cycling more fully into our daily lives. By choosing bicycles for short-distance travel, we can create more livable cities together. I invite everyone to experience cycling as a means of urban transportation."
"THE MOST AFFORDABLE AND HEALTHIEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION"
Municipal employee Kerem Bağ, who also commutes by bicycle, stated that cycling has become a way of life within the institution and made the following call: "It is extremely encouraging to see more and more of our colleagues commuting by bicycle every day. We do not view bicycles merely as a hobby or a sports activity; we see them as the most affordable and healthiest mode of urban transportation. We invite everyone in Eskişehir to rediscover and sustain this city's cycling culture."
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality stated that it will continue to strengthen cycling infrastructure and carry out awareness-raising initiatives aimed at promoting a sustainable future and reducing the city's carbon footprint.
