METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY RECEIVES EUROPEAN GOVERNANCE EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE TIME
Developed by the Council of Europe and based on the principles of good governance in local administrations, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality has once again earned the 'European Label of Governance Excellence' (ELoGE) award this year, thus becoming one of only two metropolitan municipalities, alongside Ankara Metropolitan, to receive the award for three consecutive years.
Through its dedicated efforts in good governance, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality continues to solidify its standing as a model municipality both nationally and internationally.
The ELoGE 2025 Award Ceremony took place in Ankara, under the auspices of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye. At the ceremony, awards were presented to the municipalities granted the right to hold the European Label of Governance Excellence (ELoGE) for one year. Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality was represented at the event by Deputy Secretary General Nergiz Abacı, Head of the Strategy Development Department Sıla Senem Bükülmez, and other departmental staff.
Of the 40 municipalities that applied this year, 16 earned the right to bear the label. Among the municipalities that have adopted the Council of Europe's principles of good governance and continue to demonstrate commitment in the field, a total of 16 municipalities--6 metropolitan and 10 district--were deemed worthy of the award.
In the ELoGE process, Eskişehir and Ankara Metropolitan Municipalities were the first in Türkiye to be granted the right to use the label. Having previously been recognized with the award in 2023 and 2024, the two municipalities have now crowned their success for the third consecutive year with the 2025 results.
Besides Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, the right to use the Label in 2026 was also granted to the metropolitan municipalities of Adana, Ankara, Gaziantep, Manisa, and Balıkesir, as well as to the district municipalities of Avcılar, Bağcılar, Bakırköy, Bornova, Etimesgut, Fatih, Odunpazarı, Sultanbeyli, Tepebaşı, and Kadıköy.
Commenting on the award, Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce stated: ''Having once again received the European Label of Governance Excellence (ELoGE) award from the Council of Europe this year, we became one of only two metropolitan municipalities to achieve this success for the third consecutive year. The award signifies the international recognition of our efforts in transparency, participation, accountability, and good governance. Along with our fellow citizens, our institutional structure, and our commitment to continuous improvement, we remain committed to making Eskişehir an exemplary model of local governance. We share this pride together.''
