THE JOURNEY OF SILK COMES TO LIFE ONCE AGAIN

Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce visited the "Midas Silk House" located on Art Street and took part at the loom in order to revive the city's ancient silk-weaving tradition. Stating that the Midas Silk House is a project aimed at enhancing Eskişehir's cultural richness, Mayor Ünlüce emphasized that the initiative seeks not only to preserve the art of silk weaving but also to contribute to the regional economy.

Examining the project on site, which aims to preserve historical and cultural heritage, Mayor Ünlüce stated that silk holds an important place in Eskişehir's collective memory and expressed the municipality's determination in this field.

Implemented by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, the Midas Silk House hosts a comprehensive production process ranging from the processing of silkworm cocoons to yarn production, from the promotion of traditional techniques to educational workshops. Located in the Odunpazarı Historical District, the center offers visitors hands-on demonstrations of traditional methods such as soaking the cocoons and transferring the fibers onto the spinning wheel.

Taking her place at the loom during the workshop and explaining the journey of silk, Mayor Ünlüce underlined the importance of the project, stating: "As Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, we are highly committed to reviving, developing and passing on silk production to future generations. At the moment, we are here in the workshop of our Midas Silk House, working directly with our cocoons."

Mayor Ünlüce also noted that the Midas Silk House is not only a production space but also a cultural stop for both the residents of Eskişehir and all visitors to the city, inviting everyone to witness the production process on site and to visit the sales point located on Art Street.

The project, which was initiated by the Metropolitan Municipality eight years ago with the distribution of mulberry saplings to producers, has today evolved into a journey extending from silkworm breeding to silk yarn production. Through this comprehensive effort, the region's cultural heritage is preserved while making significant contributions to the local economy.
