Eskişehir received two major awards at this year's ceremony. Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce and Prof. Dr. Murat Türkteki were recognized for their contributions to tourism with the 5,000-year-old Küllüoba Bread Project.
Following scientific research conducted on bread remains dating back 5,000 years, discovered during excavations at the Küllüoba Mound, the bread of that era was reproduced by Halk Ekmek A.Ş. , a subsidiary of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality. The project, which brings traces of the ancient world to modern times, attracted great attention by combining history, archaeology, and gastronomy.
Within this scope, Prof. Dr. Murat Türkteki received the award in the category of "Discovering Küllüoba Bread," while Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce was honored in the category of "Carrying the Bread into the Present and the Future." The awards were presented by Selma Tatar, President of Skal International Istanbul Club, and Hakkı Gök, President of Eskişehir Skal Tourism Association.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Murat Türkteki stated: "This discovery sheds light on the origins of bread culture in Anatolia. The combination of scientific research, tourism, and cultural heritage is of great value to us."
Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce also said: "We are truly honored to receive this award together with Küllüoba Excavation Director Prof. Dr. Murat Türkteki. We are proud to carry the deep-rooted history of our city into the future with our 5000-year-old bread unearthed in Küllüoba, and to see this value appreciated in the field of tourism. ''
