Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality celebrated World Car-Free Day for the first time on 21-22 September with a series of events organized as part of European Mobility Week. Held under the slogan "Streets and Roads Are Ours", the initiative offered citizens the opportunity to enjoy car-free spaces freely.
During the events, the section of Atatürk Boulevard between Dr. Sadık Ahmet Boulevard and Migros was closed to vehicle traffic on Monday, 22 September, from 16:00pm to 22:00pm. Opened to pedestrians and activities, this area allowed citizens to enjoy the pleasure of traffic-free streets.
The event on the boulevard was attended by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Acting Secretary General M. Recai Erdir and municipal officials. Mr Erdir toured the stands and engaged closely with citizens.
Celebrated under the theme "Mobility for All", the program highlighted the importance of reducing carbon emissions and protecting human health. Safe play areas were created for children, while the activities included recreational games, acrobatic bicycle shows, zumba, creative art workshops, spinning-top making, logic and intelligence games, a magical maze, transportation wheel, bioplastic making, face painting, and informative sessions were hold on sustainable mobility and environmental awareness.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality emphasized that such events aim to promote an active lifestyle in the city, improve air quality, and strengthen community bonds. City residents embraced the car-free day, becoming part of an important step toward creating a more livable city.
