A cleanup event was held along the Kanlıkavak Park - Velespit Park route as part of World Cleanup Day, organized through a collaboration between Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality and Let's Do It Türkiye. To raise environmental awareness, Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce participated in the event, collecting trash alongside children and local residents.
Coordinated by the Metropolitan Municipality's Department of Climate Change and Zero Waste, the event was part of the global Let's Do It World Cleanup Day campaign--the largest civic environmental movement worldwide. Volunteers took part in cleaning the environment, supported by numerous local organizations including the Eskişehir Kıymetlidir Platform (Eskişehir is Valuable Platform), TEMA Foundation, Nature and Life Platform, Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, Medical Chamber, Bar Association Environmental Commission, Ecology Association, Eskişehir Environment Association, and Eskişehir City Council.
At the end of the event, during the "Leave a Mark" activity held in Velespit Park, Mayor Ünlüce left her handprint on a banner featuring the logos of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality and Let's Do It Türkiye, sending a strong message of environmental commitment.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Ünlüce said:
"Since 2008, various activities have been organized every third week of September to mark World Cleanup Day. Our city Eskişehir is renowned for the maintenance of its parks and the cleanliness of its streets and neighborhoods. Today, together with our fellow citizens and children, we collected trash and gathered here to leave a mark with our own hands. With this mark, we make a promise to the future: we will protect nature, the environment, Eskişehir, our country, and our world."
At the conclusion of the program, volunteers also left their colorful handprints on the banner, which remains on display as a symbol of environmental awareness and community dedication.
