Car-Free Streets to Turn Into FestIval Grounds In Eskişehir
In celebration of European Mobility Week, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, in collaboration with Odunpazarı and Tepebaşı Municipalities, will host a series of lively events on September 21-22 to mark World Car-Free Day. As part of the festivities, several major boulevards will be closed to vehicle traffic, giving citizens the rare opportunity to freely enjoy public spaces.
This vibrant initiative, held for the first time in Eskişehir, aims to highlight the theme "Mobility for All", drawing attention to the importance of reducing carbon emissions and promoting public health. The celebration promises to transform the city's streets into areas of joy, activity, and community spirit.
On Sunday, September 21, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Ali Rıza Efendi Boulevard in Huzur Neighborhood and Sivas Congress Boulevard in Uluönder Neighborhood will be closed to traffic. On Monday, September 22, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, a one-way section of Atatürk Boulevard--between Dr. Sadık Ahmet Boulevard and Migros--will also be closed to vehicles and opened exclusively for pedestrians and events. Festivities on Ali Rıza Efendi and Sivas Congress Boulevards will take place between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, while Atatürk Boulevard will host its main activities between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Outside of these hours, residents are still welcome to enjoy the car-free streets as they wish.
Under the slogan "On World Car-Free Day, the Streets Belong to Us!", the event will feature a variety of activities including street stands, music, dancing, and awareness-raising programs. Designed to appeal to all ages--from children to adults--the event invites everyone to experience the joy and freedom of a day without cars.
