The "Park and Go" project, one of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce's election promises, has been implemented in two locations. The implementation, which will begin on Monday, July 14th, will bring relief to both traffic and the environment.
Launched by the Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department to reduce traffic congestion in the city center and promote environmentally friendly transportation options, the Park & Go initiative is initially being implemented at two pilot locations. The project aims to reduce private car use in the city center, improve air quality, and reduce carbon emissions.
As part of the pilot program, the free open-air parking lot next to the Porsuk tram stop in the southwest and the paid parking lot next to the intercity bus terminal in the east have been designated as Park & Go locations. Residents can leave their cars at these parking lots and travel to the city center by tram or bus. Those using public transportation with Eskart or credit cards will be able to use the parking lots free of charge on their return.
Citizens who use public transportation twice in different directions on the same day will save an average of 165 TL on daily parking fees. This will provide both economic and environmental benefits.
The Metropolitan Municipality announced that the program will provide faster access to the city center, reduce fuel consumption, and shorten parking search times. Based on the data and feedback from the pilot program, new Park & Go locations are planned to be established in other parts of the city.
