Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality has realized a project that will facilitate the citizens' life. Bus stops across the city have begun transforming into "smart bus stop" systems using QR codes. This system allows passengers to instantly access information about their bus; simply by using their phone's camera, they can easily see where the bus is, how many minutes it will take to arrive, and the arrival times at stops along the route.
The Metropolitan Municipality's Public Transportation Department is making public transportation easier with a new app. Bus stops across the city have begun to be transformed into smart stops using QR codes. Public Transportation Department Director Oğuz Özkara stated, "As the Public Transportation Department, we've begun converting numerous bus stops across the city into smart stops using QR codes. Our citizens will now be able to instantly find out where their bus is, when it will arrive, and its route by simply scanning the QR codes with their phone's camera, without downloading any apps."
Özkara also emphasized that this system will make public transportation services in the city more transparent and user-friendly.
Fleet Management Branch Manager Ozan Cevizli explained in detail how the system works:
"When you scan the QR code at the bus stop with your phone's camera, you can send your location information to the system by pressing the button that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. Then, by clicking the arrow at the top of the screen, you can see the estimated arrival times of all bus lines arriving at your current stop."
Cevizli explained that the QR code only contains data for bus lines that pass through the relevant stop. "When you select one of the listed bus lines," he said, "the selected line's route, all the stops on that line, and the estimated arrival times at those stops are also displayed to the user. This allows our citizens to choose the most suitable line and use their time more efficiently." He noted that with the new system's implementation, citizens now enjoy the convenience of being able to learn their bus arrival times in advance, without wasting time at stops. "We thank our Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce and her team for the smart stop application," he said.
