“THE FUTURE WILL BELONG TO THE CITIES THAT RESPECT NATURE”
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality has made an important energy investment within the scope of sustainable environmental policies. The Solar Power Plant (SPP) project, implemented by Eskişehir Water and Sewerage Administration (ESKI) General Directorate, both provides energy savings and supports environmental sustainability.
The plant, built on the roof of the ESKI General Directorate Drinking Water Treatment Plant, has an installed capacity of 1,100 MWe and consists of a total of 2,657 panels. With this system, approximately 2.5 million kilowatt hours of clean energy will be produced annually. This production amount provides a significant cost advantage by meeting 10 percent of the plant's annual energy needs.
The project, which draws attention not only with its economic but also environmental contribution, creates an effect equivalent to the value added to nature by more than 40 thousand trees by preventing 2,369 tons of carbon emissions per year. In this way, the responsibility towards both nature and future generations is fulfilled.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce, who examined the project on site, said, “Today, we are happy to share with you another proud step for our Eskişehir. We have received service for our Solar Power Plant, an environmentally sensitive and sustainable energy investment, at the drinking water treatment facilities of our ESKİ General Directorate. This project, which we have implemented with our own capital, is a very important step we have taken both to protect nature and to produce our own energy. As Eskişehir, this step we have taken on a local scale against the climate crisis makes a strong contribution to both our country's renewable energy goals and the ideal of a more livable world. Let's not forget, the future belongs to cities that respect nature, and as Eskişehir, we are walking towards the future with confident steps. We will continue to work together for a greener, cleaner, more sustainable Eskişehir.”
This exemplary application by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality once again demonstrates the importance of local governments turning to clean energy.
