THE MUNICIPALITY BRINGS TOGETHER HISTORY AND AESTHETICS FOR ART LOVERS
The talk titled "Turkish Bath and Harem Scenes in European Art" organized by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality brought together art and history enthusiasts.
The Metropolitan Municipality Urban History and Promotion Department Museums Branch Directorate continues to hold talks on art. The guest of the event held at the Metropolitan Art Center Ergin Orbey Stage was Prof. Dr. Nurdan Küçükhasköylü, known for her valuable work in the field of art history. Küçükhasköylü shared with the participants how the Turkish bath and harem scenes, which were frequently featured in European painting in the 18th and 19th centuries, were represented and how these representations changed over time.
The event addressed how the Western world's perspective on the East was shaped through artistic representations, while the orientalist understanding of art was also examined in depth. Participants had the opportunity to read art in a historical context, gaining both knowledge and a different perspective.
The event, which was free of charge, was followed with interest by many Eskişehir residents interested in art history and culture.
