Union of Municipalities of Türkiye Council Member and Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Ayşe Ünlüce attended the opening ceremony of the “Digital Youth Centers” in Ankara, organized in cooperation with UNDP and Union of Municipalities of Türkiye. The “Digital Youth Center”, which was opened in 45 pilot municipalities, including Eskişehir, will serve young people in Eskişehir within the Haller Youth Center building.
The European Union / Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance III (IPA III) grant project, implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT), with UNDP as the implementing agency and UMT as the main beneficiary, has come to life.
“Digital Youth Centers” (DIGEM), which will serve in 45 municipalities, including Eskişehir, within the scope of the ‘Today's Youth, Future Professions’ project, were opened with a ceremony held in Ankara.
The opening ceremony of the project, which was launched with the slogan “Gain digital skills, shape your future!”, was attended by many; including Union of Municipalities of Türkiye Council Member and Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Ayşe Ünlüce, Suat Yıldız, Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, Monica Merino, UNDP Resident Representative in Türkiye, Ambassador Thomas Hans Ossowski, Head of the EU Delegation to Türkiye, mayors and representatives from 45 municipalities, representatives from public institutions and organizations, private sector, civil society organizations and academicians.
Within the scope of the “Digital Youth Center” project opened in Haller Youth Center, online trainings will be prepared by Anadolu University as a result of the cooperation between UNDP and UMT and Anadolu University Open Education Faculty. Young people will have the chance to benefit from the center in workshops and trainings organized by the Metropolitan Municipality.
The Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Ayşe Ünlüce, who conveyed her best wishes to the city, said: “Young people, you deserve the best of everything! In this period when technology is developing rapidly, you have a great opportunity to acquire digital skills and shape your future. We will be together with you with the trainings and workshops we will organize in our new Digital Youth Center. Come, gain skills that will shape your future and sign projects that will make a difference in the digital world. We welcome young people of all ages who are interested in technology and full of creative ideas to our center.”
Within the scope of the project, 16 computers, 1 laptop, 3 MacBooks, 3 virtual reality glasses, 5 graphic drawing tablets, 1 smart board, 1 3d printer and 1 printer were donated to Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality.
