First in the opening ceremony was the opening of the exhibition of Selçuk Demirel’s “Between the Earth and the Sky” Afterwards the Micro-Folie Eskisehir Digital Museum, which offered its visitors a culture and art journey spanning centuries through new technologies, brought art lovers together.
Speaking at the opening, Mayor Ünlüce said “We are honored to host the valuable artist Selçuk Demirel in Eskisehir in collaboration with the French Institute of Ankara, “Between the Earth and the Sky” exhibition and I would like to welcome all of you to the Micro-Folie Eskisehir Digital Museum. We are really excited today. I think that art-loving Eskisehir residents will show great interest in this special exhibition and the Micro-Folie interactive digital museum. The works by our artist Selçuk Demirel, who has a very important value and is becoming an widely known name, will also present the troubles experienced by humanity all over the world from yesterday to today. Unfortunately, humanity has been going through difficult times with climate crisis, environmental disasters and catastrophes for centuries. The situation reminds us that environmental protection and sustainable development can only be possible with gobal awareness. The exhibition will also allow us to see the problem at his starting point in the past. Thus, it will leave very meaningful image in the memory of all of us about 'what we did wrong yesterday and how we can look at the road ahead?’
The second opening that excites us today will be the Micro-Folie digital museum, which will exhibit works from leading museums in France. The digital museum, which will welcome art lovers in Eskişehir in collaboration with the French Institute of Ankara, will welcome its visitors on a cultural and artistic journey from centuries ago to the present day through new technologies.
Visitors who will watch hundreds of works from 12 institutions including the Versailles Palace, Pompidou Center, Louvre Museum and Picasso Museum, which are among the leading museums and scientific institutions of France, on giant screens with a guide, will have a wonderful experience. I do not need to explain again the value that France has added to the history of humanity with art. We are very happy to bring these works, which are the common heritage of humanity, together with art lovers in Eskişehir with the requirements of the digital age. I would like to express my endless gratitude to the Embassy of France in Türkiye and the French Institute in Ankara. I say, ‘Reaching a world full of peace and hope is only possible with art.’”
French Ambassador to Ankara Isabelle Dumont said in her speech, “We are very happy to meet you in Eskişehir with this beautiful collaboration. I hope this collaboration will always continue. The exhibition “Between Earth and Sky” reached Eskişehir by passing through Ankara in the spring months. The reason we want the exhibition to reach the widest audience is to ensure cooperation in regions affected by the climate crisis. I know that Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce is very sensitive about women's rights and the environment. In this sense, exhibiting Selçuk Demirel's works here is a very special for all of us. The Micro-Folie museum is also a work that was brought to life in 2017. The basis of this project is to make the works of our common cultural heritage accessible to everyone. More than 12 museums and more than 100 works are exhibited. We are here after visiting Ankara so that everyone, especially students, can see the works of our common heritage in Eskişehir as much as possible. The warm approach of Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce and her team played a big role in bringing these two projects together in Eskişehir. I would like to thank you very much.”
After the speeches, Mayor Ünlüce, Ambassador Isabelle Dumont and the participants toured the exhibition together. Ünlüce and Dumont listened carefully to the presentation about the works of art exhibited in the world's famous museums. The Micro-Folie Eskişehir Digital Museum and artist Selçuk Demirel's "Between Earth and Sky" exhibition await visitors at the Atatürk Culture, Art and Congress Center until October 27.
