Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Zoo participated in the EAZA Annual Conference organized by the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) in Germany. Eskişehir Zoo successfully represented our country at the international level with its wildlife conservation projects and research studies at the conference with 1058 participants.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Zoo participated in the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) Annual Conference.
At the conference held in Leipzig, Germany, experts, researchers and zoo representatives from all over Europe came together to discuss issues such as biodiversity, species conservation and animal care, and to find solutions to these issues. In various sessions held at the conference, Eskişehir Zoo made a poster presentation about the research study titled “Eskişehir Zoo Insect Diversity Detection and Analysis”, which has been carried out together with ESTU Biology Department since May 2024. In addition, our country was represented with a presentation on “Old World Vultures in Eskişehir” about the “Small Vulture (Neophron Percnopterus) Capture and Tracking Project” carried out since 2022. At the conference, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Zoo Branch Manager Nurben Koptekin made a successful presentation to 1058 representatives.
With the decision taken at the meetings, Eskişehir Zoo was elected to the “Wetlands Campaign Steering Committee” to be carried out by 440 organizations within EAZA in 2026-2027 and will represent Türkiye.
Zoo Branch Manager Nurben Koptekin said, “Such events allow us to gain the necessary knowledge and collaborate with other professionals to fulfill our responsibilities as zoos. Our aim is to provide better service to our visitors and contribute to nature conservation efforts.”
Throughout the conference, participants had the opportunity to share best practices and new research through panel discussions and workshops. In addition, successful projects on sustainable practices, animal welfare and wildlife conservation were presented at the event.
Eskişehir Zoo officials stated that they aim to offer a richer experience to their visitors by integrating the knowledge and experiences gained after the conference into the zoo's education and conservation projects.
